What is DIRBS?

DIRBS (Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System) is PTA's system that identifies every device operating on Pakistani networks by its IMEI. It blocks non-compliant devices from using local SIMs after a grace period.

Why DIRBS exists

The system was introduced to curb smuggling, stop the sale of stolen phones, and ensure duties are collected on imported devices. It is why an imported phone eventually stops working on local networks unless registered.

How to register

Create an account on dirbs.pta.gov.pk, add your device by IMEI, generate a PSID and pay the applicable tax. Once paid, DIRBS marks the IMEI compliant and the device works permanently.

Overseas Pakistani free trial

Overseas Pakistanis can use a device on international roaming or a local SIM for a limited free period after arrival. Registering within this window also unlocks the cheaper passport rate.
